Let me say from the start I am writing this purely as a vent to describe the recent events in my family. I just wish to put it in writing cause I am a little overwhelmed at the moment and I feel you guys here at FoW are a great caring community and ……… well I don’t know what to say, but from my time with you guys I have felt you are a great bunch of people. So here is my story:
Christmas just gone was ok here except that my Uncle who has cancer was undergoing chemotherapy and his wife was in hospital for various reasons.
They are both elderly in their late 80’s and live in another state.
In the New Year I went to visit them and planned to stay maybe a few days or at most a week but ended up staying for 2 weeks because the situation demanded it.
I spent those 2 weeks cleaning and maintaining there household and visiting my Aunt each day in hospital and keeping watch on my Uncle. Their house was fairly ok but had been overrun with mice and there was a lot of cleaning etc. to be done. A few days after my arrival my Uncle took a turn and I had to rush him to hospital, where he spent the next 5 days.
My Aunty and Uncle eventually both came home from hospital within a day of each other and my Uncle had to undergo further tests, with the end result being that there was not much else the doctors could do and at this stage he has been given 3-4 months to live.
While I was with them my wife rang to inform me that our pool had collapsed.
So I arrived home and tried to get someone in to repair the pool but we had like 3 weeks of rain, so that was a debacle. It ended costing $1100
Then, in the post comes a speeding fine from a safety camera in the state where I was visiting my relatives. It was on the trip I was bringing my Uncle home from hospital, for doing 85km’s in an 80km zone (53 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone) = $153
Then a few days later, after a night out celebrating my nephews 21st birthday my family and I are asleep at home, and some lowlife scumbags break in to our house while we are asleep and steal $6ooo worth of electrical gear, computers and cameras etc. They also took my daughters handbag, which had car keys in it, so they took the car as well and set it on fire a few kilometers away. We were insured, but the feeling of having some scumbag in your house is hard to get over.
I took a few days off work, as could be expected in these circumstances but have just had a phone call from one of my colleagues at work to tell me that our positions may be made redundant.
Sorry for the vent but I am just kicking back and having a few drinks.

I do encourage you to continue to focus on the positives in your life - wife, children, family - and let them help carry your burdens, as well as continue to put attention toward meeting their needs and serving them in all ways, big and small. As to the home intruders: if you don't already have them, get a gun or two for home defense. But then, I don't know what the laws are in Austrailia, and it may not be easy to do.
